As a member of the professional team of chemists, engineers and technicians, your skills and contributions are highly valued. The Chemical Technology program at TSTC Waco trains individuals to work in industrial chemical laboratories and is one of the most highly recognized programs in the country. Upon completing the program of study you will receive an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Job opportunities for chemical technicians are found in a variety of industries throughout the State of Texas and the United States. Approximately 44% of the United States chemical production is in Texas. Most of the chemical companies are located in the Gulf Coast area between Beaumont and Corpus Christi. Other major locations of chemical industry are the Central Texas area and the North Texas area.

Technicians working in the manufacturing industries help produce a high quality product that can be purchased by other chemical companies or by ordinary people like you and me. Technicians working in research and development may help develop new or better products. They might also help develop new testing procedures. Technicians working in service laboratories might work for a variety of industries including environmental, manufacturing, and research and development.

Running routine chemical and physical tests on raw materials and final products

Employers want chemical technicians who:
can follow oral and written instructions and accurately document their observations
can treat data quantitatively using college-level algebra and fundamental statistics

Education
Range: $8 to $20 per hour (approx. $16,000 to $40,000 per year)
Median: $12 per hour ($24,000 per year)
In 3 to 5 years it is not unreasonable for a chemical technician to earn between $17 per hour and $22 per hour ($35,000 per year to $45,000 per year). Please note that these salary ranges are estimates and will vary from company to company. TSTC cannot guarantee salaries to graduates.
